Lee Wright is an artist, printmaker and tutor based in the Brecon Beacons, South Wales. Lee trained at The Putney School of Art followed by The Welsh Academy of Art. “I love drawing and painting all sorts of things, people, places, animals, plants...If it lives I like to capture it's essence in a work of art”.
In this demonstration Lee will show how he builds up an oil painting from initial composition through the stages of drawing, underpainting and first colour layer. Lee will discuss his process in detail with particular focus on:
Creating an engaging composition
Measurement and drawing
Developing a strong value composition
Colour mixing including the use of complementary colours
Creating harmony, balance and focal points using value, colour, edges etc.
Technical advice on how to use oil paints effectively
